A little bit on the beautiful place!!

Sarjekot is one amongst the chain of forts built by Shivaji in and around Malvan. The fort is situated on the mouth of Talashil Estuary which displays its splendor.

Sarjekot was constructed in 1668 at the mouth of Kalavali Creek. The creek was navigable inland for 11+ kilometers, and it runs in zig-zags, thus producing natural safe inland anchorages. Presumably many of Shivaji’s ships could be sheltered in the creek during storm season. Sarjekot is one amongst the many forts built by Shivaji but there are lots of beautiful & unique sceneries. Tiled roofs houses with 'Osari', 'Majghar', 'Padvi', cashew, coconut, jackfruit and mango groves along with pristine orchards and lush greenery is a common sight there. Sarjekot is also endowed with a beautiful seashore which adds to the rich and pleasant experience one is sure to have.

This village is essentially besides the coastal area and most villagers are into fishing. Coconut Mango & Cashew are also produced in plenty by the villagers. Sarjekot fort is not the only attraction to come to this fascinating village. There is also a famous Hanuman Temple which was built over a hundred and fifty years ago. There is also a well adjacent to the temple called ‘Marutichi Baudi’ which has special qualities. Despite being very close to the sea shore, the well water is sweet and people in the area say that the well never goes dry even in the harshest summers when other wells are bone dry.

There is also a beautiful cliff called ‘Kada’ which offers a spectacular view of the seashore besides a magnificent sunset.

With all the attractions mentioned above, Sarjekot is definitely worth a visit for people looking for some great views and relaxation. However, just a small caveat- bring lots of food. The pristine and undiscovered nature of the place means no restaurants and associated comforts. So, if you scan the horizon for a chaiwallah, you may have to trek it to Malwan- approximately 3 kms away before you can find one. But for the well prepared, the visit will give you great views, a feeling of being one with nature and pure unadulterated fun- Just what the doctor ordered!
